Tapes Privacy Policy

Effective August 26, 2026

The short version: your videos never leave your device, and Tapes collects no data about you. No accounts, no analytics, no trackers, no third-party services.

Your photo library

Tapes asks for access to your photo library so it can find your videos and organize them into tapes. All of that work — indexing, curation, titles, search, playback, and every effect — happens on your device. Your footage is never copied, uploaded, or stored anywhere else. Tapes are playlists that point at the videos already in your library.

What Tapes collects

Nothing. Tapes has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We never see your videos, your searches, or anything about how you use the app.

iCloud sync

If you use iCloud, your tape playlists and settings sync through your personal iCloud account so your tapes appear on your other devices. This data lives in your private iCloud database, is handled by Apple, and is not accessible to us. Your videos themselves are never synced by Tapes.

Place names

To label footage with a place ("Cape Cod, 2019"), Tapes looks up the coordinates saved in your videos using Apple's geocoding service. Only coordinates are sent, the lookups go directly to Apple, and they are covered by Apple's privacy policy. The resulting place names are stored only on your device.

On-device intelligence

The machine-learning models Tapes uses for search and curation are downloaded once from Apple's App Store servers and then run entirely on your device. Nothing you search for, and nothing the models see, ever leaves your phone.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in Settings ▸ Apple Account ▸ Subscriptions.

Notifications

If you opt in, Tapes schedules a single reminder on your device before your free trial ends. It is a local notification — no server is involved, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Children

Tapes is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date. Because Tapes collects nothing, we expect changes to be rare.
